AYLSHAM AREA FORUM

Recently the County and District Councils and most Parish Councils signed up to the 3-tier Working Partnership, an initiative which helped to promote better liaison between the three tiers of local government, and to improve local services for Norfolk residents.

A pilot scheme started in the Aylsham area in the summer of 2000, whereby the County Councillor, District Councillors, and the Chairmen and Clerks of the Parish Councils within the Aylsham county electoral division meet every 2 months. The aim is to share experiences, and to find local solutions for local problems. So far, the Forum has been a great success, so much so that it became the lead authority in Aylsham's bid for Market Towns Initiative status.

MARKET TOWNS INITIATIVE

The East of England Development Agency (EEDA) has funds to offer to market towns on the edge of Rural Priority Areas (RPAs), providing that they fulfill the Government's criteria.

Aylsham was granted MTI status in 2001, and the Aylsham Partnerhsip was formed with members from the Aylsham Forum (above) and other interested parties from the town and area. The Healthcheck (an audit of the town's current facilities) was recently completed to identify shortfalls in provision. Around 8,000 households in Aylsham and the surrounding area will shortly receive a leaflet explaining more about the initiative, together with a questionnaire asking for feedback and ideas for projects for improving both the town and its hinterland.

Both the Chairman and Clerk are members of the Aylsham Partnership and the Clerk also currently job-shares the administration support.
